Tolerance Fails the T-Shirt Test

While I am glad that Obama got elected (that might be the understatement of the year) Here's a little something that I thought was rather telling of how tolerant a culture we really are... The Catherine Vogt Experiment

Vote Early!

A volunteer for the Obama campaign happened to come to my door yesterday afternoon. After a few short questions about who we were voting for and whether we were willing to volunteer, she mentioned that Nebraska voters have the option to vote early starting today September 29th. I wasn't aware of this and it certainly piqued my interests. She explained that all that must be done is to go to the Douglas County Election Commission in person between 12:00 PM September 26th and 6:00 PM October 24th, 2008.

Needless to say, I will be doing this in the next few days...

McCain's Reaction vs. Obama's Plan

John McCain recently claimed that Obama has no plan for fixing the economic crisis we are currently having in this country. This is the John McCain who rashly suggested that firing SEC chairman Chris Cox would be a good start. Never mind that the power to dismiss him is not something the President wields.

McCain responded to the events of last week in such a way that it shows a good insight into his character, especially about how he deals with emergencies. He reacts. And it would appear he reacts without getting all the facts first.

Aside from the firing however, the McCain campaign has been rather quiet when it comes to suggestions on how to fix the problem. Now contrast that with Obama, who instead of blindly shouting for someone to lose their job, spoke with others who had more intimate knowledge on the subject to try and find a solution. After getting a clear picture of what needs to be done, he then presents a 7-point plan to fix the problems found.

There may be time when the right strategy is to shoot first and ask questions later, but not when dealing with the economy.

Something Different, Something New

So I've ventured a little into the realm of blogging. An ongoing set of experiments you might say..

My first experiment was meant to be mainly a personal/humorous blog which has recently become more of a ranting and raving ground for various problems I've seen in today's society. I was no longer posting daily musings or entertaining points of my days, but was complaining and extemporizing about various issues that are important to me. I don't think those posts fit very well with my personal blog's original intentions.

Abstract of Reason is hopefully the answer to that. Look here for my more serious commentary on contemporary issues and I'll try to leave the funny bits out of it.
